Summer is fast approaching and so is the desire to undergo home and garden renovations – but how can you join in on the fun while on a budget?  

Well lucky for you, we’ve found the Top Ten DIY trends of 2023 that are both affordable and modern! 

1: Curves and Unique shapes 

Our first DIY trend is ‘curves and unique shapes’. By experimenting with shapes and integrating personalised furnishings into the home you can transform your living space to be incredibly modern and stylish.  

An example of this came from a particular DIY lover, under the name of ‘Pinspired to DIY’, who set the ball rolling on the popular ‘curved floating deck’.

2: Fluted coffee table 

Stay on top of the latest furniture and DIY trends with this classy and sophisticated fluted coffee table. Not only will you be making a chic centrepiece for your room, but you can also personalise it with colours and styles to match your preexisting colour scheme; making it even more unique!

3: ‘Spa – like’ bathrooms 

If you’ve ever visited a spa, then it’s safe to say you’ve felt reluctant to leave the place of relaxation and luxury and return home.  

Well now you don’t have to experience that feeling again with this DIY ‘spa – like’ bathroom renovation. The idea behind the renovation is to make minor changes to create a major difference!

(Water resistant) wood panelling is one way to achieve this luxurious look. In this picture each wood panel is 2400mm long, (the common length for most British ceiling heights with no joins). The creator of this product also made a unique ‘felt like’ backing material made from discarded plastic bottles, which offers acoustic and insulative features.  

4: Disco ball art

Yes, you read that correctly; disco ball art is trending. To be more specific, the “melting disco ball” took the Tik Tok world by storm and went on to be featured in Vogue, Ad Trendbook. It has been named the “latest home décor trend” and sold for hundreds of pounds!  

This funky accessory can be made to ‘drip’ from shelves, tables, walls and more! You decide where to feature in in your house.

5: Indoor swing seat 

Do you love the cosy boho aesthetic? Well now you can upgrade your home with this conversation starter. If you have kids then this will be a family favourite, if not then it can be the perfect reading spot for adults too! 

For added comfort (and aesthetics), you can accessorise with padded seating, pillows or a blanket…

6: Natural swimming pools/ponds 

As summer approaches, the rise in garden renovations can skyrocket; but how can you jump on garden trends like swimming pools while on a budget? Turns out natural swimming pools/ponds might be the solution…

7: Cupboard or office? 

This DIY trend could be the answer for those with limited space who fit into the modern ‘work from home’ category.  

The idea behind this DIY project is to cater towards people who might lack the space for a desk and chair in the home, and by convert a storage space into a fully functional working space, you could be saving money and space!

The method for doing this is by removing the door and trading hanging rods for shelves – of which you will need a deep one for the desktop and two shallow ones above for storage. The materials used in the above picture are white melamine shelves, metal standards, and shelf brackets.   

8: Arbour with built in benches  

Tired of brainstorming ways to kickstart your journey to having an unforgettable garden? Look no further!  

Having an arbour in your garden can provide shade and privacy from neighbours, plus they look incredible! And why have an ordinary, expensive arbour when you can create your own that’ll guarantee to have your neighbours talking about it for weeks?

9: Radiator covers 

It’s no secret that radiators are far too expensive to replace, it’s especially difficult to justify the cost when it’s not broken; maybe it just doesn’t fit your rooms scheme! 

That’s where handmade radiator covers come in… you can personalise your own radiator cover to match your home.

Keep in mind when undergoing this project that you need to be able to access the valves with the cover on and remember to bleed the radiator before you start.
